Tuesday, 2/2/16- A Day

Learning Objective:

Each pure substance has characteristic physical properties like density (for any bulk quantity under given conditions) that can be used to identify it.

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now– Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner; Add to your NEW Table of Contents- “Density Cue p.56” (Left Side); Get out your science notebook and head page 56 properly with “Density-Cue-2/2/16.”
  2. Notebook– Trim and tape Table of Contents to front cover and write cue question on p.56
  3. Cue– Brainstorm- On p.56 of your science notebook, predict whether a can of coke will float or sink in a tank of water. Then observe the Float or Sink demonstration.  What is the difference between the different cans of soda? Based on your observation, come up with a rule that you think will determine whether something will float or sink. What do you think determines the density of an object? What do you know about density? (Write-Pair-Share)
  4. Trigger-On sticky notes, write questions/ideas about density. Put your sticky notes on p.56 in your interactive science notebook. Whenever a question comes to mind, write it on a sticky note, and stick it here.
  5. Unit Cover page– On p. 57 in your interactive science notebook, create a cover page for the unit on Density.
  • Write the title very large so that it is easy to read.
  • Draw a minimum of 3 pictures that represents the unit.
  • Color the entire page, corner to corner, using colored pencil or crayons- no white paper showing

Homework:

  • Complete the Density Unit Cover page
  • Periods 3 & 6– Science Writing Activity due Friday, 2/5
