Core Ideas:

  • Each atom has a charged sub-structure consisting of a nucleus, which is made of protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons.
  • The periodic table orders elements horizontally by the number of protons in the atom’s nucleus and places those with similar chemical properties in columns. The repeating patterns of this table reflect patterns of outer electron states.

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now– Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner. Get out your science notebook and add to the NEW Table of Contents- “Anchoring Phenomenon p.66” (Left Side). Head page 66 properly with “Atoms Anchoring Phenomenon-See Think Wonder-3/30/17.”
  2. Notebook– Trim and tape NEW Table of Contents to inside front cover. Write the phenomena topic on p.66 and set up a See-Think- Wonder with the following questions: What do you see? What do you think about that? What does it make you wonder?
  3. Anchoring Phenomenon/See-Think-Wonder– Watch the randomly dancing smoke particles video segment. Answer the questions on page 66. (Write-Pair-Share)
