Friday, 5/12/17- B Day- SBAC Schedule (7th Grade Testing)

SBAC Schedule

8:23-9:09 Period 5
9:11-9:58 Period 4
10:01-10:47 Period 7
10:50-11:36 Period 6
11:41-1:01 (includes lunch as usual with usual times) Period 2
1:04-1:50 Period 3
1:53-2:45 Period 1

Core Ideas:

  • For any pair of interacting objects, the force exerted by the first object on the second object is equal in strength to the force that the second object exerts on the first, but in the opposite direction (Newton’s third law).
  • The motion of an object is determined by the sum of the forces acting on it; if the total force on the object is not zero, its motion will change. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force needed to achieve the same change in motion. For any given object, a larger force causes a larger change in motion.
  • All positions of objects and the directions of forces and motions must be described in an arbitrarily chosen reference frame and arbitrarily chosen units of size. In order to share information with other people, these choices must also be shared.

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now– Get out your science notebook and open it to page 79.
  2. Check HW– Motion & Forces Unit Cover Page 79
  3. Science FridayMini Speed Demons
  4. Gallery walk- What do you notice about the models & post-it questions concerning the truck and the security pillar/post? What differences & similarities (in questions & models) do you notice? Have a class discussion to uncover initial ideas about motion and force of truck & security pillar/post. (Periods 3, 6, & 7 did gallery walk but not discussion)
  5. Reading Comprehension– “Crash Test” (Teacher Read-Aloud/Reciprocal Teaching in pairs) (Periods 4, 6, & 7) -OR- Educational video- “Forces and Motion” (Periods 2 & 3)
