Remember: As long as you act like a scientist when we do science, you will be treated like a scientist and conduct investigations. If not, you get to watch the rest of us do science.
Does temperature affect the speed of molecules in a liquid?
- Do Now- Get out ISN and open to page 41. Get out lab procedure and Lab Safety Checklist handouts. In your cooperative table group, review the procedure on the handout. Also, review Science Safety Regulations and Table Group Member Responsibilities.
- Investigation- Effect of Temperature- Does the temperature affect the speed of molecules in a liquid? Continue lab. Answer lab questions 1-4 on handout. Complete Lab Safety Checklist– After Lab is Completed. Tape the handout as a flip page to ISN p.41.
- Scientists’ Circle- Bring your ISN and share observations. Watch the video of food coloring in hot and cold water. Modify sketch of observations. Describe what the colors looked like and how they moved and mixed in the cold water. Describe what the colors looked like and how they moved and mixed in the hot water. What does the speed of the mixing colors tell you about the speed of the molecules in hot and cold water? Pick one of the variables and explain why you made sure it was kept the same in the two cups.
