  • To interpret the information given in the periodic table to describe the arrangement of electrons on the energy levels around an atom

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now- Get out a sheet of lined paper and head it properly. Open the textbook to page 74 and read the first paragraph. On your lined paper, write a few sentences that predict what you think this section is about.
  2. Read pages 74-79 aloud as a full class.
  3. Answer questions 1-3 in complete sentences on your lined paper. You may work individually or with a partner.

  3. Atomic Model– Use the energy level model template and the “electrons” to build a model of an atom of the element that you are assigned on page 86 of your science notebook

Learning Objective:

  • To explain, in terms of electrons and protons, why a charged object is attracted or repelled by another charged object
  • To explain that the attraction between positive protons and negative electrons holds an atom together

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now-Get out your science notebook and add to the Table of Contents- “Protons, Neutrons, & Electrons p.83” (Right Side) and Head page 83 properly with “Protons, Neutrons, & Electrons-Investigation-3/23/16.”
  2. Advance Organizer- Atoms: Protons, Neutrons, Electrons Study Jam and Atomic Model (click here for free version) BrainPOP animations
  3. Cue- Protons, Neutrons, & Electrons- As a full class, review parts of an atom, atomic attractions & charges, & electron clouds/energy levels. Work with your learning partner to answer questions 1, 2, & 3. Share answers in class. Trim and tape handout to page 83.
