Learning Activities:

1. Do Now-Head the MythBusters Student Peer Review Sheet with your name, date, and period you have science; Use the formula for speed to solve the following problem: On the highway, a car went 1,600 m in 120 seconds. How fast was the car moving?
2. Science FridayWhere’s the Octopus?
3. Educational video– Myth Busters- Can a box of tissues really hurt someone in a high speed car collision?- Complete a peer review of the things that the MythBusters do in their science investigations. You will evaluate the following scientific skills- develop the questions, state the hypothesis, design the investigation, gather data, interpret data, evaluate evidence, communicate science, & analyze alternative explanations.

# Tuesday, 10/13/15- B Day

Learning Objective:

• To identify independent & dependent variables, and those that are kept constant, when designing an experiment

Learning Activities:

1. Do Now- Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner; Get out your science notebook and add “MythBusters Asking Questions – p.22” (left side) and “MythBusters Educational video- p.23” (right side) to the Table of Contents; Turn to pages 22-23 in your science notebook and head both pages properly with “MythBusters-Asking Questions-10/13/15” (p.22) and “MythBusters- Educational video-10/13/15” (p.23)
2. Periods 2, 4, & 7 attach scenarios to page 20
3. Educational video- “MythBusters: Do Try This At Home”- Write-Pair-Share- Think about the experiment that you just observed and write down in your own words key ways that the MythBusters scientists used the scientific method; Turn to your lab partners and listen to each other’s ideas; Participate in a whole group sharing
4. Distribute & review Experimental Design Quiz

Homework:

• What if you were a MythBusters scientist? What questions would you have or myths would you want to solve? Tell me how you would use the scientific method to answer the questions/solve the myths. (p.22)
• Interactive Science Notebooks due Friday 10/16
