Wednesday, 12/2/15- A Day

Learning Objective:

  • Gases and liquids are made of molecules or inert atoms that are moving about relative to each other.
  • In a liquid, the molecules are constantly in contact with others; in a gas, they are widely spaced except when they happen to collide. In a solid, atoms are closely spaced and may vibrate in position but do not change relative locations.

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now– Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner and copy the definitions for the following scientific terms onto the back of the flash-card template: matter, chemistry, molecules/atoms, solid, liquid, gas
  2. Cornell Notes of “Solids, Liquids, and Gases”- Each group presents Cornell notes on section of reading assignment. Each student should write at least the summary of each presentation as a flip page to p.41

Thursday, 10/8/15- A Day

Learning Objective:

  • To identify independent & dependent variables, and those that are kept constant, when designing an experiment

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now- Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner; Get out your homework- “Heated Soil” experimental scenario; Get out your science notebook and open to page 21. In your cooperative table group, quiz each other on the experimental design key words.
  2. Review HW- Heated Soil experimental scenario
  3. Science Key Words- Peek-a-boo vocabulary on p.21 of your science notebook
  4. Application of Key Words- Design Detectives- Model identification of IV, DV, control, constants, etc. in an experimental scenario. Each cooperative table group is assigned an experimental scenario. Write-Pair-Share- Write the answers to the questions individually, discuss your answers with your group, share your scenario and answers with the class.
  5. Write Understanding Connections statement. Put the statement on the Understanding Connections pages p.16-17 of your science notebook

  • To draw conclusions and identify sources of error
  • To identify independent & dependent variables, and those that are kept constant, when designing an experiment

Learning Activities:

  1. Do Now- Copy down today’s homework assignment in your planner; Get out your science notebook and add “Experimental Design Key Words- p.21” (right side) to the Table of Contents; Turn to page 21 in your science notebook and head it properly with “Experimental Design-Key Words-10/6/15”
  2. Periods 2, 4, & 7- Experiment- Designer Planes-Write Conclusion using prompts.
  3. Periods 3 and 6- Write Pair Share- Write a definition for each term. Pair with a partner to discuss & refine each definition. Share the definitions that you came up with- each cooperative table group shares the definition for 1 key word
