All classes should report to the library today to gather information about Changes of State from the simulation States of Matter Basics. The assignment is on Google Classroom.
Core Ideas:
- The changes of state that occur with variations in temperature or pressure can be described and predicted using models of matter
- Heat refers to energy transferred due to temperature differences between two objects
Learning Activities:
- Do Now– Develop a model & description of the following states of matter: solids, liquids, gases. Predict the effect of temperature on the particle movement of each. (Developing States of Matter Models handout)
- Simulation– States of Matter Basics PhET simulation- Explore the simulation. Observe the movement of water molecules in each state and record your observations. Observe the movement of neon atoms in each state and record your observations. Compare/contrast the particles in water to neon in each state. What happens when temperature or pressure changes?
